General Collective is one of the first pop-up shops to open at Orakei Bay Village, soon to be rebranded Orakei Bay Market for the month of June – a marketplace designed to support locally owned and operated businesses as they get back on their feet after lockdown.
The pop-up shop, which is auspiciously located across from Moustache Milk & Cookie Bar is an extension of General Collective’s online virtual marketplace which launched in May to showcase brands you would normally find at our physical markets.
“It’s been a tough time for many small businesses and our makers and creatives are eager to get back out there and connect with customers. Orakei Bay Market is a fabulous venue and we’re excited to be part of this movement. Since opening we’ve been really well received by the local community, people are popping in to say hi and are genuinely passionate about supporting fellow Kiwis.”
The space is fully stocked with a range of gifts, homewares, jewellery, skincare and clothing, with new stock arriving daily. You can pick up a cheeky greeting card or mug from nofilterco, retro rugs from Mumma Jo’s, handcrafted homewares by Claybird Ceramics or girlbands from Gerty Brown. You can even take a load off on the green velvet couch and sample a tipple of Ecology & Co’s alcohol-free gin – there’s something for everyone.
“The whole idea around a collective is that we band together and support each other. Our pop-up shop is manned by the makers themselves and we are organising live in-store demos and workshops to give them the opportunity to share their own stories with customers, just like they would at one of our markets.”
As always, you’ll find General Collective alongside great food vendors, excellent coffee and wine! Located on the doorstep of Orakei Train Station (just one stop from Britomart) there is also plenty of free on-site parking.
Come and see the difference!
